Stillness Poem by Heather Iverson

Stillness

What say you?
Nothing?

Speak oh quieted mind
you keep me awake all hours of the night with your incessant babbling and yet now you choose to be silent?

Oh my beating heart
what tragedy has bestruck thee that now you sleep
when once my pulse raced, my body fevered and flushed

Not even my tongue cares to make itself known
and nothing, nothing from my soul once ablaze with passion
What say you?
Nothing?

Will none of you speak?
Will none of you give me solace in my awkwardness?

I know not how to make these limbs budge,
this tongue wag,
nor this blood flow once again

I feel nothing
I see nothing
I hear nothing
I taste nothing

What say you?
I pray you speak
If but a word

So that I may discover what madness surrounds me
I pray you
answer me
what have i done
