Stranger Than Fiction Poem by Malcolm McFarlane

Stranger Than Fiction

Stranger than fiction
What is stranger than fiction?
Fiction is made up
And well, that’s usually strange in itself
But whether fact or fiction
It’s all based on a vision

Fiction you cannot see
Fact is opposite of make believe
But what can be stranger than fiction?
Something that may be difficult in distinction
Something that must be false but is true instead
Where what seems false, is determined to be truth said

Strange is fiction
So what is fact?
Fact is determined
Which is proven
But what is that something that’s stranger than fiction
Must be something that is not at all fiction
At least to those who identifies its truths
What the masses constitutes unprovable
What’s improbable to ever be more than fairy tales
But such fiction can never change
Unlike fact, that’s rearranged

Those who believe its truths
Makes it stranger than fiction
Because no one should believe in the “make believe”
Lest you be deceived by something as strange as fiction

Something stranger even more
Think what could be stranger
Than to believe something that most believe fiction
Never created to be such
Time and indifference have made this distinction
What I believe is so much stranger than fiction

Strange is not what I believe
But that I believe what is said to be fiction

Its said to be tainted by the hands of man
How can we trust it?
But then who wrote textbooks
And determined those facts would be true
But you say those facts are proven
Only what is really proven
Just things that are seen and observed
But I like what is strange in what you call fiction
Something called faith produces what’s stranger than fiction
But to place faith into something so strange
So unique it is, but strange nonetheless
Belief creates this faith
Into something thought to be less
To die for this, fact must be speechless
Who would die for something
So strange it must be fictional?

But what if such fiction were true
Faith makes this provable
Where fictional is no longer trivial
How strange a fiction to affect your life
How strange a fiction to explain your strife
Doubting such fiction not so ideal
Turn the pages of such a fiction
No longer so strange
Such a fiction seems so in range
A fiction of truths
Things become confused

If this is fictional
Why is it so pivotal?
This is too strange this fiction
My heart has been enlaced with this
I have found something quite strange in this
A life never the same after this
In this make believe I am made to believe
Into something said to be fantasy
But a fiction with so many truths

So strange a fiction
Of a uncertain depiction
Where faith must be the defining distinction
But make this fiction true
Based on what makes it strange
Am I deranged?
I must have been changed
Belief in something most agree is fiction
Is that really what makes it so strange?
Maybe it’s those who think it is only fiction

A fiction inspired by One you can’t explain
A fiction called Word that existed before there was a beginning
A fiction so strange
It roots are divine
What a fiction
So creative in nature
But what if it were true
No one likes nonfiction
Truths written through and through
Ingredients of a fiction
Good versus evil
Full of war, power, and glory
Balanced with love, grace, and mercy
With the ultimate sacrifice
But what makes it real is that this fiction lives
A living fiction
Is a true fiction
What a contradiction
No longer a fiction
Based on what makes it stranger than fiction

So, strange is a fiction
That is indeed a true depiction.
