Suddenly You Appear Poem by Sylvia Lukeman

Suddenly You Appear

Rating: 5.0

I remove the lid
from a box of souvenirs
and suddenly you appear,
smiling up at me as once you did
before.

A photograph lies there
and I stare at it in disbelief.
Your smile warms me
as it always did and now
it brings such pleasure to me.

You had been loading our picnic
into the back of the car
and I grabbed my camera
called your name..
you looked up..
You smiled
and I clicked.

You are no longer here
but your smile is and
it beguiles me;
you may come back
one day
but until then
I have your smile
to melt some of my sadness away.
