~ Sufficiency

I live not that I may see
The world beneath my feet;
Nor do I ask fame fondle me,
Her glowing fingers bittersweet.
I ask not riches, but content
Am I with daily needs,
Love and beauty the extent
Of recognition for my deeds.
I ask not spacious lands to own
But a place to lay my head,
That I may call the world my home,
Where e're my feet are led.
No mansions, servants, pageantry
Come within my yen.
A door to guard my privacy,
My desk, notebook, and pen.

Ah, but I ask the world should treat
Me as its simple guest;
The ample means to convey my feet,
New horizons for my quest;
Someone to serve my simple fare,
And let my thoughts roam free;
A person to arrange my hair,
And each, my friend, must be;
Books on every theme and master,
All that my heart could ask;
Someone to share my tears and laughter,
Or know the burden of my task;
Someone to care, yet let me be
The person that I am.
All of these You've given me:
Thank You, and Amen.

adeline, just browsing poemhunter i decided to read a poem of yours. i resonate with your statement here of the concept of enough. on matters of craft, you rhyme well. on the meter, i wonder if you've considered working at getting the whole of this poem in iambics. some examples: line 1 It's not my dream to see line 3 Nor ask of fame to fondle me for as i read the poem something in me has to make an adjustment where i encounter other meters. anyway, thank you for posting the poem, for the reminder to seek for ourselves, for the whole world, our daily bread. glen kappy

A wonderful message to 'the world of not enough'. I love the rhyme, melody and rhythm in the poem.

I ask not spacious lands to own But a place to lay my head, That I may call the world my home Fantastic. Beautiful positivity has been implied to the innermost meaning of life. If human race could be able to think this way, the civilization would get a bit more time to exist otherwise.....! Nice poem overall. Regards, pranab k chakraborty
