Sunday Poem by Scruffy Cooper

Sunday

Singing about silence
At two hundred miles an hour
Learning how to Love
While fighting the power
Waiting on my Savior
To explain the sublime
Tiling my prison
With nickels and dimes

Trying to connect
With Sponge Bob and Slash
Barking my shins
On dead leaves and ash
A cat without history
Cries in the wind
Asking the same question
Again and again

Even the colors
Are faded and weak
And only the cat
Has the courage to speak
“How long, ” she asks
“How long? ” nothing more
The world keeps falling
“How long? ” nothing more
