Superman Poem by Faith Pearson

Superman

Could it be you?
Superman?
Don't tell me your kryptonite- I know.
It's in the way you move.
Your kryptonite is life.
It isn't for you what it should be.
Is that why you left?

Do you know my kryptonite?
Did I ever tell you?
Maybe you can guess.
It's green and brown and wild
and far away, in a different language.
It's as real and as clear
as the tattoo on your wrist- the one
I'll never see again.
That superman shield.

If you didn't guess-
It's your favorite color, the color of your eyes,
what you would have wanted to do with your life,
where you grew up, where you wanted to go,
where we could have gone together.
It's you.
But I bet you knew that.
