Sweet Destra Poem by Leslie Alexis

Sweet Destra

On two hands I can count the days
Since we met, and when we did speak our
First true words too. But, inside my heart
It is to me, like you always been. And now
Hours are too short, to stay by you -
And days, and nights, seem the same way too.

The first time my eyes beheld you,
I gazed, ‘speechless, ’ ‘ really! ’ For in me
I thought words could not reach Heaven’s..
Even so, by my bed, I said,
In my head - From my heart -I said,
Words “true’ to God, to soften your heart
For me.

To remove fear, to remove doubt
And send the right words into my mouth
So that you, I can befriend.
(Never wanting it to end.)

So he did, and now, I am like a kid
Enjoying learning of you:
Of the things you love to do, and
The places you love to go, the friends
Your cherish best,
And why you’re above the rest.

So long have I
Waited,
Eternity to me it seems, for a lady like you;
Eve-like in her stature,
To journey out my dreams -to stabilize my heart.

Destra, My dearest, I’ll learn to
Always and forever cherish, the seconds spent with you:
Never to forget, and never to let go
A moment in our passing times

For when you hold my hands
And we become one
I feel like I belong.
