Swimming Lessons In Life Poem by Ted Sheridan

Swimming Lessons In Life

Rating: 5.0

If only
I could love
the way I used to

and see the World
the way I used to
If only....

I could go down to the ocean
where I used to watch the waves
for hours and hours__

bury my feet in the sand__
jump in the water
and ride a few waves__

leaping up
and out of the water's
churning chaos

taking in deep breaths
of salt air
as the beads of water

would heal my sores
taking away
my aches and pains

and washing me of my sin
I used to be rejuvenated
by the Earth's blood__

You were always
smiling at me then__
Alas....

when I now
go down to the ocean
I see only the sharks

lurking in dark shadows__
birds dive bombing me
looking for a free meal__

and you
floating face down
in the Earth's sewer

holding your breath
praying that I can save you......
