Love traps you when you least expect
takes control of your thoughts and emotions
gives you little time to reflect
drags you as a wave in its ocean

His or her name blinks a light in your brain
makes you dream in the middle of the day
at times you experience aches and pain
but this is the price you have to pay.

It takes you up the mountain peak
you hunger but not for food
floating in the euphoria you seek
yet trying to understand your various moods

Fills your heart with songs and laughter
accepted and beautiful you feel
suddenly it all shatter
then you realize you are the arrow or the shield.
