Tagore Song (#54) How Long Do I Have To Wait, My Beloved Poem by Tushar Ray

Tagore Song (#54) How Long Do I Have To Wait, My Beloved

Rating: 5.0

Oh, quietly asleep Thou Art
In my deepest heart, all alone
Please wake up my Beloved!
I’m waiting behind closed door
How long do I have to wait!

The nightly stars appeared
All across the clear sky
And peeping thru my window
Please wake up my Beloved

Oh please add music to my life
Do not keep Thy Bina quiet
Oh my Beloved please wake up!

I want to join my eye with Thine
Placing the right hand of mine
To the right hand of Thine
Oh, please wake up my Beloved!

My heart will be filled in nectar
The darkness will be shaken up
By Thy light’s musical tone
Oh my Beloved, please wake up!

A quiet impatience beneath the surface, wanting his beloved to wake up. You can feel the anticipation of her waking up, yet it never happens and the darkness continues to hide her. Wonderful translation, Tushar. Love this one! Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn

Though I have not read the original poem, your translation of if has style and poise. A very interesting write.

Thank you very much. I try my best to get the deep message of Tagore's song across in my translation.
