Tahoe Poem by J.B. LeBuert

Tahoe

I named my dog after this gorgeous place.
She was aptly named, with her beautiful face.
She had eyes as golden as I've ever seen.
Her disposition - she was never mean.

Her coat was so soft and a deep dark yellow.
I knew I was blessed, and a very lucky fellow.
Everyone commented on how sweet she was.
People loved her - just because.

She died one day for no good reason.
She'd only been alive for a very short season.
She was two years old when she died;
She was taken from me by my stepson's pride.

His neighbor hated him so;
That he poisoned his dog, named Nikko.
Tahoe loved Nikko and followed him about.
She licked his face all around his snout.

My love, my heart, was taken from me.
Only because she could not see,
The neighbor had poisoned Nikko and her.
It made my mind race, it became a blur.

They ran together all about the place;
Joined by love, and joined by the chase.
My stepson was warned that there'd be trouble;
To get his dog tied up, on the double.

His arrogance cost two dogs' their life.
There was no need for this torment and strife.
I'll never get over the whole affair.
I'll always adore that wonderful pair.

Take what's mine and you'll regret it.
I'll be comin' after you, and don't you forget it.
I should have killed the neighbor, that very next day.
He had it comin' - that's all I'll say.
