Take A Picture Poem by Katelin Taylor

Take A Picture

Take a picture.
Of anything, of some random person or thing
Caught up in the unexpected moments of life.
These moments
These instances in which one is in between poses
In between a smile and a tear
Between a hope and a fear
Between dying and death
Between breathing and breath
These moments are our reality.
When the manufactured smiles are taken down
Replaced by the brokenhearted frown
Of a girl whose childhood was taken away
That's life.
Not the pretty girls posing for pictures
Or strutting down some boulevard
But the woman at home with her children
Trying to fix up the yard.
I love this dear woman, this fighter
Who's been through far more than it seems
Who worked all her life just to prove to her kids
That with sweat they can get to their dreams.
Life is not perfect like pictures
Doctored, put on magazines
Life is the moments that break us
The moments that nobody sees.
So snap it when no one is looking
Click, right when nobody cares
For beauty is not in the beautiful smiles
But in plain ordinary affairs.
