Taxi Driver Blues Poem by Mitzi Albright

Taxi Driver Blues

Rating: 5.0

I was thinking, contemplating
Dreams of life and over rating
All my plans for something new

The crossword puzzle in my lap had
Proved too simple and I felt bad
Knowing it was all I had to do

Another fare only entices
Anger over gasoline prices
And I wish that there was someone I could sue

I’m just wasting, wasting time in this busy town
I’m as old as my Checker cab and more run down
Should be doing more than driving around
This traffic jam of life has made me frown

As I drive, my meter ticking
Another stranger it’s so sickening
How I ended up here anyway

I should have been someone who’s famous
But I copped out and the shame is
No one hears a thing that I say

So here I sit a taxi driver
Going home and getting higher
Tomorrow just seems like another day

I’m just wasting, wasting time in this busy town
I’m as old as my Checker cab and more run down
Need to find someone to turn my life around
This traffic jam of life has got me bound
