Tempers Poem by David Harris

Tempers

Rating: 5.0

As temperatures soar
tempers also rise
even amongst the most placid.
The hotter it gets
temper’s fuse gets shorter.

A survey once taken
showed the murder rate rose
whenever we have a heat wave.
The reason is because
our tempers hang on a shorter fuse.

Arguments that would
attain to no violence
escalate in the heat.
Small infractions
boil over into wars.

Heat drives us onward
to do things we normally
wouldn’t dream of doing.
Heat waves stifle us confusing our brain
driving us to moments of insanity.

It is true, the heat brings out the demon in us, but we had better not complain after last summers deluge.
