You know when I was your age I kept thinking
that falling in love would be everything
Looking back now I really believe
that I was stupid, dumb and naive

You see the thing with love is its always unfair
You go for the guy who doesnt really care
He'll lie and he'll cheat
but you'll think that he's worth it
Maybe one day you'll see you were stupid

Im only telling you this
'cause life can do terrible things

Maybe if you're lucky you'll meet the right one
he'd take a bullet for you, shield you from harm
but one way or another you're bound to lose him
realise that in the end you never can win

I thought I had lost when I met your dad
he smiled at me daily, made me go mad
I remember he came over one summers night
and offered me a ride on his bmx bike
I took his hand and went with the wind
we stopped by the park to sit on the swing
he took my hand and turned to me
he said ' Girl I gotta say, baby I love you,
take this my heart,
its all I can give you'

A few years later we had moved in
partying nightly to everything
we had so much fun it makes me sad to think
how different today could have been

You see one night we were walking home, hand in hand
across the beach, toes dug in the sand
He turned me around and kissed me softly
told me he'd never love someone else like me
He knelt to the ground and he pulled out a ring
said' Girl I love you will you marry me? '
I knew that I wanted to spend my life with him
I said 'Boy you're amazing, you're my everything'

He came home one day looking so sad
I couldnt help him it, made me feel bad
He walked up to me and hugged me till he cried
pulled away gently and looked in my eyes
He said 'Girl can I tell you a terrible thing?
it seems I am sick with only days to live.
Dont be sad girl just let me get this out.
I love you so bad and this is killing me right now
Dont be sad baby Im not gonna leave
I'll still be with you everyday
watching over you sleep'

That night he went to hospital, he'd gotten real sick
the doctors all said he only had hours left to live
they said ' its a terrible thing,
if only he had a transplant then he could live'
The next day he woke up feeling great
he'd spent all night worrying himself awake
What would he do if he deserted her
he knew it'd break her to be alone
He then asked the doctor where had she gone
she should've been here when he woke up
The nurse came in with a pair of red eyes
and handed him a letter that made him cry

The letter it said that she loved him
too much to be able to live without him
the doctors had told her they needed a heart
she said 'I told you it was yours from the very start'

So kid never go there, dont fall in love
stay away from those boys and girls
cause they'll get you and trap you
and you'll never get out
its enough to make you cry, scream and shout

Your father and I we had some good times
but when I left him he died inside
I love you darling, dont want to see you sad
you gotta stay strong, for me and your dad
keep him happy and love him for me
I may not be there but I can still see
Im watching you from heaven, keeping you safe
Im with you my baby so please stay brave
