That Nameless Island Poem by RIC BASTASA

That Nameless Island

when he makes a world
of his own
and this takes too little
time and effort

when he draws a small circle
around his world
and then you find out
that you are excluded no matter
how small that circle is

he knows what you feel
you are excluded, at worst,
you feel ostracized

and then you begin to feel
that pain of
exclusion

and then you begin to understand
what it is
to be excluded, a mutant,
an outsider,
the unwanted, the possible
intruder

to be in that circle again
you must make a promise and you must
make it right now

you see
that island that has no name in the
most stormy part of the ocean
when you are
thrown into the vast uncharted sea
is what you need

it is what you badly need
because you are now
in trouble
