That Poem Poem by Leslie Alexis

That Poem

I don't think you understand
The previous poem I wrote,
And of it you will never quote
Though it is so very grand;
Like magic to a magic wand
Its the essence of all that be,
And to all doors, it is the key
For thing both large and small
That one poem has it, has it all!

You see I have this teacher
A wise man - the best poet,
Who teaches me metaphor:
As in the bird is the jet,
And the wilted flower is death
Or a wilted flower, maybe?
That’s left up to epiphany:
The gift you get when you read,
Which, it seems, you never did…
