That Rat Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

That Rat

That rat

It was hell and it burned
-with flames all around
-and the rat ran for life

Poor was rat
-the poor rat
-I was child
-around nine
-and felt sad

Crazy was young man
-dipped the rat
-inside a jerry-can
-pulled it out
-dripping kerosene
-from sides
-stroke matchstick
-and flames went in air

And ran rat
-the poor rat

Crazy onlookers
-make me think of
-gallows' observers
-looking at
-dangling dead body…

Now, years gone
-can recall my readings
-see prince and crown
-to be used as a mould
-into it pouring lead
-melted, hot, brain cooked

I can see Ahmad Shah; Kandahar
-heads crushed under feet,
-elephant is trained for the job

What are we as mankind?
-am ashamed to be one! ! !
