The Ache Poem by Troy Younts

The Ache

Right now
I have only this ache
in place of a heart.
I watched as it formed
in your azure eyes
brimming up to spill
down the perfection of your cheek
and fall across the gulf between us
with a sigh as sad and heavy
as the ocean withdrawing from land
It lit upon my soul with dove-white breath
my eyes burst then
showering my sunlit corners
and moon-shadowed pillow
with one thousand phantom images
of YOU
So that this Loneliness has become
a surrogate lover
masked in your visage and
Right now I have only this Ache in place of a heart.
