The Affliction

This defunct wing of hope
is an affliction I cannot surrender
so I walk carrying
two broken organs

Then I slipped into a crack
with all the bygones and
the forgotten
but you weren’t there

I stayed a little longer
nursing my wounds and
flapping my broken wings
but to no avail

And in this parcel of the night
I capitulate the gift of flight
and incarcerate myself
inside two broken wings

Poem of the Day

poet Christina Georgina Rossetti

Where sunless rivers weep
Their waves into the deep,
She sleeps a charmed sleep:
Awake her not.
Led by a single star,
She came from very far
