The Afghan Star Poem by Joyce Hemsley

The Afghan Star

The last smile you gave me
liveth on in my mind,
Oh, wonderful father,
From years long gone by.
I shall never forget
The sad look in your eye
As you silently uttered
That final goodbye.

Your medals I treasure.
They were modestly won...
Among them 'The Afghan Star'
From Great World War One.
As you rest up in Heaven
Where the rose gardens shine
May the angels protect you
Dear father of mine.
