The Awakening Poem by Jade Leven

The Awakening

I should try using my intellect
every once in a while
I should look for the truth
and act surprised by your smile
not that I am, but you see I’ve only just realized
I’m no smarter than you
you’re not much smarter than me

I know a lot about you
but I learn more every day
about your past and your present
being with you gets that way
with the same result every time, not that it ever gets old
I’m not different from you
you’re not much different from me

does this mean we’ve always been just right?
does this mean I can stop struggling?
does this mean this was planned from the start?
as I search for the answers
this is an awakening, an awakening

I should try loosening my grasp on you
every few days here and there
will the crisp winter morning take you
will those pretty girls capture your stare
is experimenting too dangerous, or is it acceptable
I‘m not more curious that you
you’re not much more curious than me

does this mean I can wake up in a new day?
does this mean the past isn’t where I should be living?
does this mean I can relax for a second,
to catch my breath?
this is an awakening, an awakening

am I supposed to love the morning light,
or the sun setting in a scarlet sky?
the beginning that makes me eager,
or the end that makes me want to cry?

I’ve only just realized
I’ve only just realized
I was living with closed eyes

does this mean we’ve always been just right?
does this mean I can stop struggling?
does this mean this was planned from the start?
as I search for the answers
this is an awakening, an awakening

this has been
so good
the awakening
