The Battle Field Poem by lee robin thomas

The Battle Field

thinking is for brave soldiers
escaping mundane duty
though many of us are forced onto the battle field
yet only with our mirror

we throw punches and kick
as our lives look at us holding knives
we dodge and spin making excuses and eventually run
as life points a gun at our past

we take no responsibility
we point at someone else saying 'they, they.'
and some drink away their thoughts
and have nothing of use in the morning

so if you want to learn to think again
stay sober and look around your house
if a mirror stands before your face
you can look deeply at your shadows

but if all you do is think of pain
you can release your mind with slow escape
meditate with breath and peace
and allow your mind to walk slowly through the memory

your thoughts will come and go
nothing stays the same in our minds
tomorrow you could wake free of yesterday
after dreams that cast away darkness

so be a brave soldier
take on a war with your frightened mind
battle against thoughts that try to make you a demon
and you can find a place of beauty tomorrow
