The Benefit Of The Doubt Poem by Kitty Marie Lucas

The Benefit Of The Doubt

falling away
in dreams of a parallel reality
in which i am presumed insane
wake up with the accusations
that i'll always be the same
i never have been - i'm just tired of all the change

and i never stopped believing
for a second you'd give in
i gave you the benefit
of doubt instead of leaving
but now i realize, i can't ever win
and that hurts more than anything
you ever did

surrounding silence
my words were stolen, plotted
by you, the overlord, before i was born
i have no face or thoughts
is your steel composure
more threatening - or this battle i've lost before

and i never stopped believing
for a second you'd give in
i gave you the benefit
of doubt instead of leaving
but now i realize, i can't ever win
and that hurts more than anything
you ever did

the damned won't be ignored
just cos you hope we'll be the way we were
don't expect the me to do some good
it's not like you ever thought i could
you never seemed to think i could, no

and i never stopped believing
for a second you'd give in
i gave you the benefit
of doubt instead of leaving
but now i realize, i can't ever win
and that hurts more than anything
you ever did
