The Best Mistake I Ever Made Poem by Chase Breeden

The Best Mistake I Ever Made

It was the best mistake I ever made
That made me who I am today
Despite the pain, all the dismay
I never let it go
Disagreeing, mind and heart
Ripping sanity apart
Since I was left here in the dark
So many years ago
I promised that I'd never leave
Never intending to decieve
Attempting to make her believe
She was the essence of my soul
But our years are growing shorter now
Our lives are more in order now
We've met back at the border now
And remembered days of ole
Consoling all the things of past
Feeling whole again at last
The field of memories is vast
Love that burned as hot as coal
What will become of us, you seek?
Have we just begun or reached our peak
Are we strong enough or just too weak
Do we still have that control?
To reestablish tattered vows
To do what mind and heart allow
Let worried sweat fall from my brow
Because that was then, and this is now
