The Bottom Line Poem by Linda Racaniello

The Bottom Line

Oxycontin grinded down for a snort
A poor mans heroin of some sort
Snorted for an all time high
As one sees life pass them by

A bit of smack, melted down with ease
Into the vein, injected to please
One little rock of crack and a coke can
Fired up on a screen by an addicted man

One joint of reefer, to puff away
The joys of life of an addicts day
Wish for sleep, pray to die
awake all night, no time to cry.

A hit of acid, red or purple micro dot
One snort, one blow, one puff, one shot
Feeling numb or feeling an all day high
Quick take puff, so you can fly the sky

Rehab and cold turkey do it for a while
Until you phone the dealer on redial
You miss the buzz, you miss the high
With drug addiction you’ll surely die

Busted and jail time, programmed to fall
but in prison you can get your own eight-ball
If you want drugs they are there to be found
you'll be doing the nasty, all over the grounds

Some sell their souls and if that ain’t enough
They'll do whatever it takes just to get the stuff
For you can’t see what the drug addiction does to you,
Any negative thoughts you scream 'boy, that's just not true'

You’re hooked and that’s the bottom line
Drug Addiction has found its way to destroy your mind
Your lost in a world of endless space
As the weight of your life shows upon your face

One hit, one blow, one puff, you cry
No need now for help, when you didn’t try
Skin and bones, white as cotton
Eyes bloodshot, teeth all rotten

For those who live, but can't stop the abuse
and all those alkies who thrive on juice
One shot, one pill, one final sigh'
In this endless hell, you'll beg to die.
