The Bright Side Of Aids Poem by Ramona Thompson

The Bright Side Of Aids

Infected
So what?
Just because you've been handed a death sentence don't mean that your life is over
In fact, it may have only just begun
Why?
Baby, I'll tell you why
Some really cool reasons why!

Now that you've got it
Just think how much you've been blessed
Won't have to struggle through or bored by old age
'Cause chances are that you won't live that long anyway
Not too bad a deal
To be remembered young and semi-pretty forever
No worries about lookin' like an old wrinkled bag at your own funeral party
What could be better?

Now that the sickness has you in its nasty little grip
No more need to worry about having to use protection
You're free and clear now
Your fate has been signed, sealed and delivered
May seem selfish to some, but if you lovers don't wanna get ill too...
Then they'll just have to take care of themselves
Why should you have to take on another worry anyway now that you're so bad off?
You should't!
No way!

Oops got pregnant
Got a possible H-I-V kid on the way
No problem
So you won't be around to see your little not so bundle of joy grow up
So what?
Now that you're sick there's a ton of options open
Including pressuring those family members into fulfilling certain deathbed promises
Promises such as agreeing to adopt and raise your latest little mistake

Wow, what a great way to meet new people aids is
No pressure to make any kind of lasting attachments
No pressure to avoid making that certain someone angry enough to walk away
Just put on a little pout, cry some, and tell them it's ok
You're just gonna die anyway
Why should they care?
Ha, they're be feeling so guilty that they're never leave you
No matter how bad you treat 'em
And hey if you're lucky maybe they're even do ya a favor and leave your family some huge cash
In their will

F-R-E-E
Never gonna have to pay for a thing again now that you're s-i-c-k
Gonna be able to get whatever you want
No questions ask
And if some cold hearted sob tries to tell you no
Just pull out those guilt tripping aids tears
And you'll have 'em eating right out of the palm of your hand
Swear to God it works every time

You can do whatever you want now and get away with it
Murder, bank robbery, anything
I mean what are they gonna do
Give you the death penalty
Oops too late boys in blue
Soon to be biting the big one anyway

Got a list of enemies?
Got a lot of people who just can't wait to see you dead?
Hey, look on the bright side
Now you can finally give 'em what they want
For once in your life
You can do the right thing and make someone else besides yourself happy
And if you're lucky you can do it just in time for Christmas or one of their birthdays

Now you don't have to kill yourself
God has handed you the ulimate get out of jail free card
No muzz, no fuss
No sin
You can still get into Heaven
Wow, when they say the Lord works in mysterious ways
They really mean it

Been a homophobe all your life?
Can't be anymore
Not now that you've finally got something in common with the gay and lesbian community
Just think how much of a better person you can be now
Just think of how you can reach out and touch so many people
You can even prove that old wive's tale false
Gays aren't the only victims of this terrible disease
Sometimes even us straight people get it too!
