The Cat On The Mat - A Children's Tune Poem by Dr Ian Inkster

The Cat On The Mat - A Children's Tune

The Cat Sat on the Mat

The cat sat on the mat, he fell asleep and had a dream about some cream and that was that.

But no, there's more than that from this fat cat, for he found a hat and inside it he did crawl

He woke and found that all around him it was black and he was trapped so he started to bawl

But the cat on the mat could not be a heard, and like a little bird no-one could hear his call

Inside his hat the cat on the mat just sat as the hat rolled and began to fall

The cat on the mat with much éclat sprang out in a second flat for he had Nine Lives in all.

The cat on the mat, awoke where he sat from his dream about some cream and that, this time, was that.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is a song for small children that builds from the traditional short rhyme the cat sat on the mat. It is one of an intended series that goes through the 9 lives of a cat, and is in song form - see attached P3 song file.
For the song I voice it as a careless lazy sort of mog without too much thought in the world. The series will be generally lighhearted and sung against the instrumental background of guiatar or mandolin or ukulele.
