The Cathedral Poem by elysabeth faslund

The Cathedral

Rating: 5.0

Footsteps to the shoreline, shoes off,
funny toe impressions...

Foam seeps absolute...scuttle away, or
walk into

The Great Cathedral...Mother,
waiting warm

Gently reaching arms to hold
safe...

Beyond the second sandbar
is the Beginning

Of Time.
Rebirth.

This is wonderfully distilled and moves decisively and inevitably toward its concluding stanza.

Great starting point for meditation and the 'footsteps.. shoes off' evoke the proper attitiude. I like the inclusions of playfulness with the 'funny toe impressions'. You say so much with so few words and images with your choice of adjectives 'absolute...warm... gently...' 'Waiting' and 'reaching' speak the invitation. I like your use of 'scuttle' and 'foam seeps absolute'. Actually every word fits right in and adds to the mystery yet to unfold.
