The Cowboy Capital Of The World Poem by Andrew Close

The Cowboy Capital Of The World

Riding out on a stallion black
I’ve got my shotgun by my side
I’m going down to freedom town
With nothing but honour and pride
I’ve seen life in the west
I’ve seen girls from the east
I’ve hunted with the red man
And I’ve killed all the beasts
I’ve burst into a saloon bar
Shot a gun and said my piece
But then people just looked at me
A little coyly and said
“Boy have you been out in the sun too long
Because you sound like you’ve gone mad?
The west is no longer the west my friend
Were a lot more civilised now
We don’t kill each other anymore
Heck we don’t even farm cows
It’s the east my boy, that’s who we fight
Because were all good moraled you know?
Well blow those boys to kingdom come
Then maybe find some oil or some fun
Fighting with a god and the man on our side
Who but all will succumb? ”
