The Crocodile's Dinner Poem by Paul Hartal

The Crocodile's Dinner

They were resting on the river bank.

"Age differences", said the hippopotamus,
"represent dislocated pasts and futures
with permanent time gaps."

His friend, the frog, listened and smiled.
"Nevertheless", said she, "the future is still the time
in which we will spend the rest of our lives."

"Oh, please", said the crocodile,
"dinner is ready. I live only in the present."
