The Crown Poem by Michelle Kidwell

The Crown

On Easter Sunday after I attended our morning service, I watched Rick Warrens Easter service and I have been pondering on something he said, on how the Cross once a symbol of torture, became a symbol of love and hope!

He wore a crown of thorns
Piercing his head
Blood dripping where
The Thorns had gone in
They beat him mocked him
Flogged Him
They hung him on a cross
Probably at the wrist, to
Support the wait of our Savior
Who carried the weight of sin
On his innocent shoulders.
They gave him vinegar on a cloth
I am sure burning chapped
Beaten lips.
He turned the cross
And the crown of thorns
A symbol of torture
Once to a symbol of the Lord's
Undying love.
