The Dangers of Seclusion

Being alone
for long enough
can have serious effects
on the state of your soul

loneliness causes the soul to wither
and slowly lose chunks of it's humanity
daily interactions become foreign territory
solitude becomes less of a choice,
and more of a habitual dependency

a soul in isolation runs the risk
of going mad, positively insane
as one forgets what's normal
and what is not normal
left alone with a mountain of faults,
a colony of insecurities nibbling
upon the residual shreds of self-confidence

God said, man was not meant to be alone
and whether you believe in God or not
it is still every bit as true

I like the concept behind this poem and for many this holds true. Though I question what is normal? We live in a world where we live off what were taught and even if we break away from traditional methods of thinking they still cling to us to some degree. I actually for now only leave my place of residence only 24 times a year just about and I have very minimal physical interaction with others. Some need to connect otherwise they would go mad for others it is a good reminder to connect lest you become so self absorbed you forget the world around you, your reason of your existence, your purpose. People need people and I get the poem. Though some need more solitude than others for many reasons though it should never as you said becoming a dependency because then the balance of ones life becomes unbalanced and when your not in control you are out of control and the world needs no reminder what happens when some that are out of control are capable of just look at the world around you. Anyways I really enjoyed this thought provoking poem and it really is not only just a good poem but a rule of thumb to live by. Nicely done Nika!

    Being isolated
some times is the only way
    to survive
though there is nothing normal about it.
    The greatest
    thinkers have all different minds
but agree on the harmful effects
    yet in America
    albeit through their jails,
    mental hospitals and prisons
    they take human beings
    and in some instants hide
    them aware for years
    knowing full well the ramifications
    of their actions
then expect things from these people
whom no longer are that they made.....iip (Report) Reply

My love like the spectator ydly sits
Beholding me that all the pageants play,
Disguysing diversly my troubled wits.
