The Days Have Gone By Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Days Have Gone By

The days have gone by
The years have gone by
There are far fewer left
Than there have already been

I do not know how many are left
Today is another day
Just one more day
I have not done well in it

But there will be tomorrow I think
And more days after that

But most of the days
Most of the years
Are already gone

And I sit here dreaming
I will begin again
As if a young person

Well I have been a fool all my life
And am still a fool

So let me begin again tomorrow
