The Deck Poem by Imaanah Saleem

The Deck

The truth is I adore you

But I'm going to keep it real

Place all my cards on the table,
And let you see my whole deal,
For you I will

Do whatever is in my power

Something simple
Like
Saving hot water in the shower

Cook your meals
Iron
Provide for you reasonably

All these things I could manage
And I'll do it freely

For you

I will

Be the best I could be

A clean up woman
No doubt
But I can't be every
Thing

Let's come to an understanding

Be strait up in the beginning
So
Later
They'll be no reprimanding

And if
And when
You wonder why there is no extra thrill

I'll bust out the deck
And lay out the same deal
To help you recall what
Earlier on
I said
I will
Do
For you
