The Demons Poem by Fred Chamberlain

The Demons

The demons count the pills on the table
the scars on my body
the suicide attempts
the crazy thoughts
they pick my brains telling me what to say
what to do, what to think
the demons tell me the way i'll die, and the way i live,
They tell me to say what they say
they tell me to do what they do
they tell me to go where they go
why do i believe them
why don't they go away
why do i stay
why do i listen
They sound so good
they say they will give me a good life
they say your death will be fast and quick
with these pills in my mouth
with this rope around my neck
with the blades at my wrists
with my body in the middle of the road
the question becomes clear
should i stay or go
