The Disconnect Poem by Joan Marques

The Disconnect

I was dreaming
And you were dreaming
And I thought that - in the end -
Our dreams would come true...
But then I realized
That your dream
Was different from mine
And, although it took a while
I finally got a clue...
The fulfillment of your dream
Entailed the destruction of mine
But who wants to catch a bird
That yearns for a different nest?
So, now you're gone
And I've moved on
With now and then a bittersweet reflection
Of what I once considered the best...
