The Distance Between Us Poem by Liam Flaherty

The Distance Between Us

The distance between hearts is not measured by the space between us.
It is measured by the heartbeats that go to waste when you are gone.
Pictures are but false reflections, and memories are easily forgotten, and
Ephemeral permanence is left in the air
You leave in your wake

The starlight in your eyes, the moonlight in your hair
The wonders of the world can not compare

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I originally wrote this as a love poem, but then she broke up with me before I could give it to her. Honestly, I think that expands the meaning of the poem far beyond what I originally intended.
