The Dream Weeps! Poem by Vadakkumpurath Ramesan

The Dream Weeps!

From the crown of Himalaya
She moved to the south
The Hind, the land of five rivers
Where she had a dream
When she dreamed of an abode
And a life of color and gaiety.
Her dream got red cheeks
As she brood over Saketha
On the banks of Sarayu
Where Sita defeated the fire
With her unchallenged chastity!
She peeped into the Kurushetra
Where she met Gandhari
The lady from Hind-Kush
Wailing and mourning the demise
Of her dear and near.
She was brought down
From her dreamland
As the whistling metro embraced
The choked city of Kali ghat
With its general din and dust.
As the dusk down with dark
She was made like a bride
By her master mastering
Many birds in his cage like chambers
And she was led to the exotic
Fragrance of the customer
Who sprang upon her
As a beast haunted by hunger
As his physical advances
Progressed with no care
For her resentment and resistance
She with the frightened eyes
Of a dove in the net
Shut her eyes before the hunter
And wept as her dream
Melted and vanished to her dismay!
