The Drought Poem by Aimanu B. Ali

The Drought

I am waiting for the rain
Almost impatiently
With an eagerness
Of the lover
For his beloved
I can hear
The sound of rain
On the roof
Against the window panes
But the drought exists
Still in me
The earth in my heart
Dry and unsaturated
My soul is aware
Only of a lingering wish
For the rain to come
And drench me
As the sodden earth outside.
