The Epilepsy Poem Poem by Denice Woods

The Epilepsy Poem

Tremors flutter from my fingers
Up the left side of my body to my brain
Blinding pain,
A force greater than myself
Takes my soul from my body,
Somewhere else,
Fade to black.
I'm falling,
Falling into the darkness of the abyss,
Falling into the blackness of an ocean of nothing.
Where am I?
What has taken me?
And what did I miss?
If I give in to the darkness,
Will a better life be waiting on the other side,
And all the pain & suffering from before be a nightmare?
Everything in me wants to give in
To the force unknown,
The black, never ending darkness
Yet, I am held back by fear..
Is my death here?
Has death come to tease and taunt me
With its false promises of eternal peace,
Oh the secrets we keep..
When there is really nothing there..
Just the blackness of the ocean of nothing.
Suddenly, bright lights,
Blistering, blinding flash in my eyes,
Shattering the illusion,
In my haze & confusion
I begin to see colors,
Then people come into view,
Recognition sets in,
Then reality comes whispering
And life beats me yet again
Every muscle, every bone
In pain..
I am physically and mentally drained.
I'm back
Never quite sure when
I'll fade to black..
Again.
