The Epitaph Poem by RAJ NANDY

The Epitaph

THE EPITAPH

That brass name plate on the door
outside,
Indicate the temporary residence where
one resides!
But on the epitaph lies engraved,
That final resting place of rest!
A permanent address for those lying
below,
At the end of the day, at the end of the
show!
In silent testimony the epitaph stands,
A cold marble stone without a voice;
As dust and ashes remains our final choice!
Here no postman bring letters or mail,
No visitors ever come to call;
Except mourners, those close loved ones,
Placing flowers, on their knees do fall!
They pray for the peace of the departed soul,
Which in heaven may bloom and flower,
When tear drops silently like the dew,
Which the warmth of heart on the grave
does shower!
The good earth one day claims back its own,
When the soul leaves this earthly mould, -
Where it never belonged, which it never
owned!
Leaving only a name behind, which lies
engraved on that marble head stone!
