The Extra Thing You Now See (That Hides Behind My Eyes) Poem by Lily Espinosa

The Extra Thing You Now See (That Hides Behind My Eyes)

Rating: 5.0

I bleed in front of you,
But not through a cut, slash, or open wound.
My eyes,
They tell you the story.
Never again will they show you what they used to.
Once upon a time
They held nothing but devotion -for you,
Hopes, promises, happiness, love,
Squashed hopes, empty promises, faded happiness and an eternal hatred spurned from love, are what you see now.
Behind the smiles, laughter and conversation sits the truth,
And you see.
Look into my window, through deep brown doors
and see my soul.
One look and you’ll know,
My eyes will hold this forever.
They continue to tell the story,
When my voice fails to support me,
Of an emplaced addition to part of my character,
Unwanted, yet visible.
I hate who I’ve become, the burden that dulls my light.
