The Fragile Heart Poem by grace mariner

The Fragile Heart

He was never mine to lose
but I am losing just the same.
The cruelty of our pasts have captured and enslaved our present,
decaying all that was good.
His gift to me was my feeling of first heartfelt love.
My gift to him was giving the same.
Sacred but now blasphemed and sullied by the cruelties of those lives, those past days.
And I am so afraid, for how will I live without you my love?
How does a person live with only half a heart?
The better part of mine will go with you.
it will be your warrior,
To keep you safe and always remind you that I will always be here if you want or need me.
it will find its way back home
It is all I can give to you.
And I will be a better person for having loved you
and a sadder person for having lost you.
And I will be afraid that I will feel as I've always felt before I met you...
the empty, discarded jester,
only now with this missing piece.
So return to me someday,
my love, my heart, my soul.
i will always be dreaming of you.
always here waiting...
my heart will know the way
