Treasure Island

The funny thing about all of this

There isn’t a lot that i can remember
from the other night

except that you went looking for me
and the warmth your hands transferred over to me
whenever they made contact with my cold skin
and how we hid in the closet
and how even though i couldn’t see you
i could feel your beauty
and it made me angry every time you left my side

and i remember thinking that the only way
i could ever be okay with
wanting someone so bad
is if i could leave every time the sun painted the sky
and erased the stars
and dusted off the moon

because i don’t think love is meant for
bright blue skies or white clouds

and when i think back enough
i can remember
sneaking off to the front of the house
and demanding that we lay in the street
and demanding not to move when the car came near
and demanding you to let me die
and you dragging me off the middle of the road
as i begged you to leave me alone

i don’t know why i’m so sad
all i really know is that
whenever i go shopping i buy my things in medium and large
even though i can easily fit into a small
and that i chew on the inside of my cheek
any time my mother speaks

and that the only comfort i’ve found
in the past few months is in you
your voice
your eyes
your hands
your warmth
your music

your everything
is the source to my frightening thoughts
and i never knew
i could be so loved
and still feel so insecure

i don’t remember much from the other night
but you do
and you didn’t like me then
so i’m glad that all those memories
come in faded photographs
and scratched records

Poem of the Day

poet Henry David Thoreau

My books I'd fain cast off, I cannot read,
'Twixt every page my thoughts go stray at large
Down in the meadow, where is richer feed,
And will not mind to hit their proper targe.
