The Fury Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

The Fury

Who can understand this
And who can prepare
And be sufficiently able
To know what to do
In such a situation
The fury unknown
That hit at such a rate
Sweeping everything in its path
Leaving tears and disaster
Along its way
To confirm the visitation

Men race to help
Men race to rescue
Yet, powerless to do much
It is unimaginable
The roar of the waters
Moving at a pace
That is un mashed by men
Across boundaries and heights
Making a sling of things
On her pathway

But who can prepare
When the ground choose
To give way under;
No solid ground to stand
Every thing becomes a
Sinking stand; a sinking
Sand that holds nothing
Men took to flight;
Animals took to flight
No hiding place
Everything swallowed up
So very quickly

Helter skater they ran
Looking for higher ground
Yet, unrelenting the fury
Unimaginable fury
One disaster preceding another
Hundreds lost,
Hundreds dead
More unaccounted for
Hey, the help of man
So limited; so useless

The world is jolted
From slumber,
Once again from comfort
To prepare
Prepare to meet your God
Where are you
We look for you everywhere
Our heart stops
Not wanting to imagine
The next disaster
We are lost without you

We are truly lost
So lost without you
Tears and fire
Destruction and water
Smoke and darkness
You watch us
As we wait for next disaster
Totally powerless
To stop it to occur
Waiting and wailing

Nothing was speared
The world is scared
Who could have prepared
As they have prepared
The young, the old
Knows the alarm
And when it blows,
Everybody must run,
Run for cover
Waiting to take nothing
We cover ourselves in ashes

The help of man has failed
We lament for the land
Yet, men do not notice
The finger;
The finger that points
Scrambling we do
As we await
One more time
We await, the fury

The earth quakes under
And men stagger
A staggering calamity
As it unfolds
Unrelenting and merciless
We are doomed;
Except we are rescued
Oh, rescue us
That we may not perish
With our generations
From the fury,
Of your anger.
