The Future Of Heaven Poem by John Courtney

The Future Of Heaven

Rating: 5.0

I.

there is a woman
who stays
in me
she finds
the city of a man

I keep her entertained
in blindspot motel
translations of death
for the softening body
of dreams

in me
she finds
salvation breeding
wings devalued
into tentacle stares

she asks, “are you the same as you are yesterday? ”
and I becomes a noise
that walks

we are married in sin
infinite fonts
for fire's eyes
will burn the eggs
lost by voices
heard to be continued

she is the sky wrapped around me
moving trees
sheared of law
smoked of vision
key-chained to life

baiting memory
she brings the world
through a window
to re-live escape

II.

faced with escaping
one dream for the next
a visiting moonshine
spreads like apple butter
across tenement pores

my heart is a strong dark city
voices fixing my roads and
beasts need the sports page
so I can capture me
exactly where the city
outside is the visitor

then sold as is
at the world's last auction
tornado sirens will signal
to everyone sitting in envelopes
shivering in the mouth
of the sunshine
exploding
