The Gambit Poem by Daniel Kline

The Gambit

Rating: 5.0

Flower maturation
Acid disintegration
Corpse of the people who try too hard
And then we are who we say we are

Faking to be true
Down and out, through and through
Step up and step out
Famine caused the draught

Swing high and then low
In the trees and down below
Up and out
Fierce and true
Humble pie and sky of blue

Cherry tart and pumpkin kisses
Prying eyes and jealous wishes
Spangled stars and fire-eaters,
Mother hens and far fiercer creatures

And I’m alive for a moment
I’ve died for a moment
I’ve sighed for a moment
Thinking of fast thing and diamond rings

True and true
That’s all I am, all I am will do.
I do.
