The Gift Poem by Arliz Paelmo

The Gift

Once upon a time
I wished for a tree
But He, who's so benign,
Offered me a seed.

Enraged, I grumbled,
I cast His gift away
For it was nothing but trouble
That educed delay.

Summer came
And winter passed
I called upon His Name
As I was to breathe my last.

He asked of the seed
I had long forgotten
"The fruit of its tree
Shall withdraw thy burden".

About to depart,
I wept and prayed
If not for a heavy heart,
It could have been a longer day.
