The Girl Poem by mae beezwax

The Girl

People stoppin’ in their tracks
Swivelin’ their heads and lookin’ back
To see what the girl is smiling about
“You never see her smile” they say
As she dances down the street one day
“Why would she start now? ” they ask while
She twirls and twists with a smile

It was true, what they puzzled about
Usually all they saw her do was pout
But today was special
And with the wind in her hair
She couldn’t stop flashing smiles everywhere
She met someone today who
Could make her dreams come true

She couldn’t eat even though hungry
All she could do was smile and laugh
Leaving everyone else baffled
At her sudden change of masks
They finally leave to resume their tasks
When they heard her start to sing and turned
Her giggles at first became a hearty laugh
As she ran about her day with cheer in her heart

Her dreams no longer haunted by her past
Her smile returning at last
She continued to meet this person
Her spirits rose
And she was glad that she chose
To try again
To have a friend

“What happened to this girl? ” Someone may ask
well, if you were my friend you would know…
